c.westcott i tried

Okay Mr or Mrs C. Westcott, I tried to mail you your Moleskine. Your bloody address was incorrect. And b/c you just put yr first initial, I can’t find you. You were at CAA. You were probably sitting in on the panel before mine on friday morning. Six degrees of separation: can we find C. Westcott?

    Michael,

Cynthia Lawson asked me to take a look at this since I was a CAA. Alfred Lerner Hall didn’t sound like a street name to me so I searched for it on Google Maps. It’s a Columbia Univ. building at 2920 Broadway in the 10027 zip code. 6614 must be the room number.

    Hope this helps.

    Dan

PS Sorry I missed your panel. I was too busy preparing for mine. I’m very curious about the floss version of your new book and wonder if using freeware is viable with first year students. For the first time, all of my freshman have laptops but not all have CS3 or 4. More later.

    Hi Dan,

I googled it as well. C Westcott probably got a new job at CAA. Or got laid off. Oh well…

I hope your panel went well. I think that using FLOSS software is totally viable for first year students. The problem is that the knowledge factories we work for demand (and the students believe) that we teach Adobe because that is “cutting edge.” But the fact is, principles are way more important than upgrades and software versions.

You have to understand the formal principles. The buttons you push to get there are way less important. Software changes. Buttons move. Principles don’t change.

I would love to talk more about this with you and the Parsons crew
