Invite Everybody

facebook invite everybody

— Facebook has blocked the ability to use this plugin. I repeat: It no longer works. To boot: It cannot be fixed, as Facebook has prevented bulk sends. It was fun while it lasted (RIP, Dec 2009)—

Sick an tired of clicking several hundred times when you want to invite your friends to a Facebook event? Yeah, me too. So I wrote a Greasemonkey script that does it for you. And just to be thorough, I wrote a bookmarklet too (for you non-GM people.)

It is all up at http://TheRedProject.com/scripts along with some other simple utility scripts I wrote, on the newly cleaned up front end to TheRedProject.com, which is my utility & storage domain.

Just to be clear, this code is GPL licensed, so feel free to use it, but keep it open.

Is there a maximum number of people it will invite? I’m using the bookmarklet instructions, but the guest list does not appear on my event, and some friends I’ve asked have not received the invite. Thanks!

well, i’ve only tried it with approximately 500 people. If you are in the thousands…. you gots lots of friends.

i’ve had one response of trouble with the CreaseMonkey version, but that is the only trouble i’ve heard of.

i have noticed that when you drop that many invites into the system at once, it takes a while (up to hours?) for all the invites to be delivered.

Is there a way to specifiy how many people to invite at once? Facebook only allows you to invite 40 people at once now.

only 40 at one time? The bastards! I’ll look into it…

I get an error message when running the script, but after clicking ‘debug script’, the script goes on to work like a charm, and two clicks is far better than several thousand!

Thanks! Great script that does exactly what I was searching for.

I have heard there are some bugs. I haven’t used it for a few months, so I don’t know. I would love to say “I’ll fix it pronto” but lets be real: way too many things to do first.

Realistically, the next time I have to use it I will debug it.

Hmm… I just created an event that I am only inviting local people to (in PDX) but it gave me a chance to test the scripts out a bit. The bookmarklet crashed FFX without even giving an error message. I wonder if they changed their CSS? The GM script seemed to happily select all my friends, but b/c it is a local event, I’m only inviting local people, so I don’t want to press “send.” Not sure if it would give me the 40 person limit. If so, I guess the next step is having it select the first 40 people, and then send those, and just click through by 40s. In general, I have noticed that FB seems to be putting up significant barriers to mass communication: to send some messages today, i had to clear two CAPTCHAs (and the words are barely legible!). I think I might have something else soon that I can test it on, but not sure.

Hiya There, Great addon, love what your doing.
But i was wondering if you could help me in getting this scriptto work on external Facebook Invite applications

My website http://www.housexclusive.co.uk has an invite page added to the following url:

    http://www.housexclusive.co.uk/user/index.php?option=com_contact&view=category&catid=12&Itemid=114

This is created using Joomla ” JFB CONNECT / INVITE / LOGIN ” system…

I would like to be able to run the INVITE ALL script on this invite module. is there anyway you can customise the script to do so ?

This would be most appreciated thanks

If you wish to find out the element names on the invite module u can use FIREBUG for firefox :)

    Thanks

    email me at: kyle@housexclusive.co.uk

    Hi Kyle,

You are welcome to take the code and modify it for this purpose, it is GPL licensed. I can’t tell you if it would work or not. You just need a developer who is familiar with Javascript to work on the code.

hey, how can i use this bookmarkt on mac, safari? will i work here? thanks, vincent

  • 13 admin Sep 30, 2009 at 5:50 pm

    http://www.google.com/search?q=bookmarklet+safari&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

BTW, it appears that FB has blocked the ability to invite more than 40 friends at a time. So I’m very clearly unsure about whether the script is currently working (as I have not used it for a while).

g’evening mr. developer, can you please, please support this awesome idea and make it work with the current facebook setup. thanks a milli. thanks thanks thanks.

  • 16 admin Feb 28, 2010 at 2:42 pm

    Dear Aaron,

Facebook has changed their setup, and now throttles multiple selects. The code is license free, so you can take it and do what you will with it, but just so you know, I don’t have the time or intention to go back and make this work.

Every hack has a lifetime: this one’s is up. Someone else is welcome to give it a new life.
