Hi Anna. This project is pretty much indefinitely on hold. All my work is Creative Commons licensed, so anyone can take it and build on it. If you really want this material, I would encourage you to do so. I would love to see what you would make with it.

Hi! I was wondering how the work on retroreflective yarn is going?
Also, could you give me an estimate, should I want 200m of aran weight wool yarn (eg Cascade 220) that has been treated with retroreflective agent, how much would that cost me?
I think it's a great idea to put retroreflecting yarns into hats and gloves - as a driver and cyclist I quite often find that pedestrians, and cyclists are pretty much invisible and you only see them in the last moment.

Please tell me where to find the ink made for fabrics. I am disabled (so I move slowly), and do screen printing as a hobby. I would absolutely LOVE to make myself a jacket or something that I can wear at night and actually look GOOD in, instead of the stupid strips that I currently use.

A note about the yarn: good idea, wish I could knit... oh, and the glass beads are a big part of what makes it retroreflective, so sounds like heat setting is not really optional if you want it to last.

miyong, do you have any photos of the prints from the technique you describe? where are you located? What fabrics did you use? How large of a piece of fabric did you work with? And what materials -- did you have any stretch problems?

thanks,

Michael

I'm a professional dyer and work at a digital and silk screen studio. We have taken the ink made esp for fabrics and screened them onto fabrics to amazing effect. Works even if you print one color, then print again with the ink.

You could also dilute the ink down, screen it on fabric and then heat set it with the oven used for plastine inks.
