Professional Life

You are currently Natalie B's assistant, helping with her class entitled "The power of the line." For this class your responsibilities are primarily making sure the audiovisual equipment is working for class, and preparing supplementary materials and examples of work for the lecture.

You are also responsible for distribution of the Net.Net.Net book, from the conference of the same name which took place two years ago. The book is a result of the work of three different collaborative groups, the first of which organized the conference, the second which interviewed the artists, and the third of which made the book. You are going to help during the revision process of the book. The book is being published by the Cal Arts press; from what you understand, this is the first book of this nature to be published by Cal Arts. The release date is set for June. All of the promotional materials are in the Net.Net.Net folder in your "projs" folder. Your primary contact is Zoe C.

You maintain the "calls and opps list," a mailing list of calls for work and other exhibition opportunities. You compile this list from postings to the list serves which you subscribe to, and e mails sent to you directly. The user interface is located at http://theredproject.com/calls. The administrative interface is accessed via the link on the page at http://theredproject.com/calls/admin.html Send out an email after nyfa.org publishes their artswire weekly listing.

You also administer the "Art Information Network," or art.info. art.info is an external mailing list which is used for announcing projects and shows. It is a knock off version of e-flux's mailing list, offering a similar service to artists who cannot afford the high cost of a targeted commercial press release. If there is payment it would be in the form of the artist contributing their own mailing list of art contacts to the Art.Info.Net mailing list. Art.Info.Net is located at milklab.org/artinfo/, and the administrative interface is accessed here.

Before returning to graduate school you worked professionally as a freelance Web programmer in New York City. Your primary skill set includes Perl/CGI, Javascript, HTML, and Photoshop. Your resume is located at here and your C.V. is located here. While in New York you worked with a number of agencies (or pimps as you like to call them), here in Los Angeles you only have a tenuous contact with the local branch of the Aquent agency with which you worked in New York. You called them up when you arrived in Los Angeles six months ago, and because the demand is so low you have not heard from them since.
