Bright Bike Workshop & Instructable

instructables

This weekend we had a Bright Bike workshop at Eyebeam.  We wrapped about 15 bikes, and an additional 20 people took home materials to wrap their bikes at home based on the Bright Bike Instructable. It ended with a short critically-visible-mass ride around Chelsea.

Smashing success.

Here are pictures. Video coming soon.

Bright Bike

The Bright Bike is a retroreflective vinyl wrapped bicycle.  We used Scotchlight 680 vinyl.  When the bicycle is in the beam of a light (like a car’s headlight, or a camera’s flash,) it reflects back super bright.  When it is not in the light, it is just jet black.  Ideally, it will aid in nighttime bicycle safety.

More info, a video, and a workshop coming soon

Takeovers post game and Roadshow pregame

The Takeovers and Makeovers conference was a hit.  I had a superb time speaking with Fred Von Lohmann and Jason Schultz. I made everyone laugh, and swore more than Tom McDonough, which is apparently no small feat.

I am spending the week doing final wrap up on the Digital Foundations book, which goes to the printer on Friday(!)

And pre-gaming the Eyebeam Roadshow, which begins on Saturday at Mills college.

Scotchliting My Bike

Patrick Davison and I went to Ethan Benton‘s studio last week.  We talked about bikes, looked at fabric, made plans to do some retroreflective powdercoating tests, and he gave me two little scraps of 3M Scotchlite Removable Graphic Film with Comply.  This is the material he is using to make the ELVS co-branded Velocity deep-V’s.

I took the little squares and cut them up into littler rectangles, and put them on my bike (washing those spots first.) You can’t tell they are there in the light, but in the dark they light up bright.  I’m going to try to get more of this material, and wrap the whole bike.
